“Water is Life” benefit held in Dayton, Ohio to support the Water Protectors opposing the DAPL.
On October 23rd 2016, a music show and benefit was held at The Trolly Stop in Dayton’s Oregon District to help raise funds and supplies for the Water Protectors standing against the Dakota Access Pipeline.
The event lasted into the early evening and included several speakers who came to share information about the DAPL and those opposing it. Gregory Bogard, the keynote speaker for the evening, gave an impassioned speech before performing a few songs. “It isn’t a question of if, pipelines are designed to only last about 50 years.” Gregory said in his speech. He continued, “There is an alternative to oil. There is no alternative for water. We are made of water.” Several people in the crowd agreed with his sentiment. “Donations and supplies are great, but what we really need is bodies. We need people who are experienced in peaceful protest, people who know the law, and people who know about engineering and building.” Gregory said. Prior to the show, I got the opportunity to speak to some of the organizers for this event who gave me some information as to how everyone can help. Here are some things that people who want to help can do. Call for the Army Corps of Engineers’ permit for the pipeline to be rescinded by calling the White House at (202) 456-1111 or signing the petition.
You can also phone the Army Corps of Engineers at (202) 761-5903 and also call your Congressional Reps and Senators. Those who wish to help more directly can donate items to sacredstonecamp.org or donate to the legal defense fund. Or you can contribute via Gofundme.
Everyone is also encouraged to Share via social media and word of mouth to spread the word.
